The GALACSI Faculty Writing Workshop meets once per month between September and May of the academic year. During the meetings, we discuss pre-circulated, short pieces of writing. For each meeting, every person participating has the option to circulate a piece of writing of a maximum length of two pages. Members also have the option to submit and receive comments through email to help accommodate those who do not live in Atlanta or who are away on fellowship. We discuss each piece for a set and limited about of time before we move on to the next.
The unique format provides consistent and constant writing deadlines. It is difficult to find time to write during the school year and this format intends to set manageable goals. Over time, the group has become familiar with the overall project of each member and the continual feedback is both relevant to the specific piece but also to the overall project. This format also helps with very specific writing issues. For example: getting over writing blocks, analysis of sources, connections to theoretical work, etc.
